The Nowra Players will be staging a youth production of The Monty Python Musical Spamalot, during the January school holidays.
The story centres around King Arthur and his search for the Holy Grail. After a rather silly bit of miscommunication leads us briefly to Finland, our King and his ever-faithful squire Patsy begin to search for knights to accompany him on his Quest. He finds his first in the unlikely guise of Dennis, a hideous local mud farmer. After convincing the locals that he is the King by conjuring The Lady of the Lake to prove it, Dennis is transformed into Sir Galahad.
The rest of his knights are found far and wide and The Lady of the Lake, and her Laker Girls, send our stalwart band on their way. They meet up with an unforgettable slew of outrageously kooky characters and musical hilarity ensues as Arthur and the Knights make their journey.
The aim of this production is to give our Nowra Players Drama Students and other school aged community members the opportunity to perform a full-length production in a quasi-professional environment.
This production stands on the shoulders of other Nowra Players youth drama projects and productions, such as; NP2, The Prophecy of Diddle, Drama Classes and a multitude of youth productions including Camelot! The Panto.
The majority of the cast will be selected from members of the Nowra Players Drama Classes. The cast would be no bigger than 30 participants. The age range of participants would be in alignment with the Drama Classes (Years 3 to 12).
Rehearsal and Performance Schedule
Rehearsals would begin in October on Monday evenings for two hours and one hour on meeting nights directly after the Drama Classes. The primary focus of rehearsals until the Christmas period would be on learning songs and dances. During the school holiday period rehearsals would be held for a fortnight during the day time between 10am and 3pm.
Auditions will be held on Sunday 24th September at 2 pm
As time will be tight to stage a full-length production, it will be vital that all cast members attend all required rehearsals. All cast members will be required every day in January. Failure to attend rehearsals will result in the team member being dropped from the show.
